Hier siedelten sich in der Gründungsphase der deutschen Automobilindustrie nicht nur Firmen an, auch die Vorgängerorganisation des Verbands der Automobilindustrie (VDA) wurde hier 1901 in Eisenach gegründet. Erste Produktionsstätten wurden schon 1896 in Eisenach gegründet.
