Die Arbeit beginnt mit einer Definition relevanter Begriffe und erklärt die drei prominenten Komiktheorien. Im zweiten Teil werden "The place of work" und "Stromberg" kurz vorgestellt, inklusiver einer Zusammenfassung, sowie genrespezifischer Einordnung.
Daraufhin findet eine multimodale Komikanalyse der beiden Serien statt, die dazu dient, die Strategien zur Komikerzeugung zu identifizieren. Dazu werden exemplarisch vier Szenen ausgewählt, multimodal transkribiert und anschließend analysiert.
Der dritte Teil beschäftigt sich mit der Frage nach den kulturspezifischen Eigenschaften von Komik und geht dabei näher auf typisch deutsche und typisch englische Archetypen und Ausdrucksformen von Komik ein.
Abschließend werden die Erkenntnisse aus der Komikanalyse mit den Resultaten des kulturgeschichtlichen Komikvergleichs in Beziehung gesetzt, um schließlich die Ausgangsfrage – liegt Stromberg ein typisch deutsches Komik-Konzept bzw. liegt The workplace ein typisch englisches Komik-Konzept zu Grunde.
